Welcome to Process Junkie! A New Creative Journey Awaits You…

Hey, friends!

I'm Jason, and I’m excited to welcome you to Process Junkie. Let me share a bit about my journey and why I’ve created this space…

A Little About Me

I'm a cartoonist, illustrator, comedian, podcaster, and author. I’ve been living in New York for the past 10 years. Originally from Australia, I’ve spent the last 20 years making my living as an artist. Watch this video to find out a bit more about my story:

Why Process Junkie?

The creative process has always been an obsession of mine. Over the years I've learned a lot about it. I want to share that knowledge with you just in case there's something that you can take away from it to help you in your creative journey.

Creating Things with Human Hands

I'm primarily going to focus on the process of creating things by hand, using tangible tools and traditional skills. I won’t be encouraging the use of automated tools or AI Art Generators. I’ll delve into the drawing part, the writing part, the coming-up-with-ideas part, and the sometimes mythical, difficult, uncomfortable, editing and development part. We’re going to explore all of it together.

What to Expect

I'll also share weekly insights into the psychology of creativity and tips I’ve learned over the years for sustaining a career in the creative arts. I'm going to cover studios and tools and other artists’ methods, book recommendations, resources, and software.

Expect to learn about:

  • Studio hacks and art tools

  • Methods used by other artists

  • Books, resources, templates, brushes, tutorials, hardware & software reviews

  • Traditional tools versus digital drawing tools

I believe in a hybrid approach, combining traditional and digital methods. This way, we’re not limited to one single tool but can experiment and find what works best.

The 3 Key Lessons we’ll explore in the Process Junkie Creative Philosophy:

  1. Figuring Out Your Unique Process: There's no one-size-fits-all in creativity. Learn the basics but find your unique method and double down on it.

  2. Enjoying that Process: The act of creating should be the reward. The final product is just the icing on the cake.

  3. Embracing Mistakes: Mistakes are essential for growth. Avoid unnecessary ones, but don’t be afraid to make plenty of mistakes and learn from them.
